2006 Chermette (Domaine Vissoux) Les Garants

Fleurie Cru Beaujolais.

Enjoyed as a sipper Saturday night. At first, surprisingly, showed a little heat/fumeyness...but this blew off.

All about the berry fruit, relatively low acidity though. Nice cherries on the nose, too, but the cherry element did not come through on the palate. Some smokeyness and definitely a strong earthy "floor" provided a bass line for the berry fruit. Would be good with food.

I've enjoyed the Vissoux wines I have tried in the past.

On a less positive note, the 2000 Chateau Coufran Haut Medoc was definitely corked. Wasn't sure at first, and there was enough fruity stuffing in this Bordeaux to make it almost drinkable even with the dread TCA. But...classic wet cardboard became more and more evident. Luckily, I was going to San Francisco on Friday anyway, and K&L credited me for the bottle!
