Final evening of the weekend with Beth & Joe. Dinner was at Corriander Bistro in Voorhees, NJ. Lamb roganjosh was my choice for Easter dinner.
1999 Vilmart Cuvee Creation
Very solid stuff in the sense that right now it's rather dense and impenetrable. There's a lot of nutty/woody/yeasty elements and lots of concentration, but it lacks verve. I think it needs time, but I don't have enough background with this wine to be sure.
1985 J. J. Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese
Golden, aromatic, just slightly sweet & very complex. At 25 this wine is entering the final act, but it's a wonderful finishing stretch that highlights the slate and still the fruit of Wehlen. The acidity is still bright, and there's just a touch of finishing creaminess. Very nice.
2008 J. J. Prum Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Spatlese
Bright, linear, subtly sweet, light bodied spatlese that is a reminder of what used to come in those green bottles. This is not declassified auslese in style, and is all the better for it. Those who are afraid of the sulfur/fermentative elements should decant this wine for a while.
2006 Vieux Telegraphe Chateauneuf du Pape
Another classic of its type, this is very primary, but air brings out the leathery/herbal signature of Chateauneuf. The balance is spot on, and it drinks fairly well now though there is capacity for aging. This is much more to my taste than significantly riper years like 2007.
And that's a wrap to a great weekend!
