WTN: Caracter Patagonia Intimo Malbec 2008

by Bruce Hayes » Sat Apr 03, 2010 8:45 am

Río Negra, Patagonia
Humberto Canale

Dark red in the glass.

Spicy, chocolate and juicy cherry on the nose.

Spicy, chocolate, cherry, raspberry, red currants, tangy, light to medium bodied, soft in the mouth, juicy, red licorice, creamy.

Nothing much on the finish.

Delicious.

Purchased at $12.95 (Canadian) and a great value.

Alcohol level?

13.5 per cent. Still too high, IMHO, but the wine was able to support it and I didn't notice any alcohol burn, which I have experienced with a number of red wines recently.

Bruce, your TN describes the wine perfectly.

Having been to Patagonia recently on the Chile side I was nonplused night before last when a friend brought the wine to dinner. No part of the cold and windswept Patagonia I saw could possibly sustain a vineyard. But surprise! As you say, the "Intimo" is delicious. And a heck of a QPR. Drink it now, though, as it's not designed to last.
