WTN: Weinbach, Houchart, Noval.

The `05 Domaine Weinbach Pinot Gris Cuvee Laurence was the usual attractive effort. Very appealing with Singapore noodles. Papaya on the nose, lime and spice. Elegant, off-dry, pear, grapefruit, it`s all there forumites.
Spotted the `06 Domaine Houchart Cotes de Provence downtown, a staff pick! Opened one hr but not decanted. Blend of Grenache, CS, Syrah, Carignan. Everyone knows the pinkie from here, this red is best served slightly chilled imo. Light color, nose is aromatic with berries and spice.
On the palate, soft tannins, juicy, black and red berries. Dry, no bitterness, light weight. Will be interesting to check what is left this evening.
My last split of the `94 Quinta do Noval LBV was a delight and despite various comments elsewhere, I would not hold onto this wine too long. Deepish red color, strawberry and marzipan on nose. Soft sweet black fruits, drinks so nicely now, why wait? I enjoyed the lush richness here, what else to say eh.

I've got a bottle of the 06 Cuvee Laurence PG, but need to figure out how off-dry it is to formulate pairing plan.

Sounds like a PG where there is no danger of yawning. The Faller ladies make elegant wines but I share Dale's concern about the pairing problem. What did you have with it, Bob?

Ok, I mis-spelt so edited. Singapore Noodles, not the best choice I am afraid to say.
If one listens to the UK bunch, five spice roast duck with PG works well. Who would have thought eh?

Duck and Pinot Gris works really nicely together, though the combination can be rather heavy at times. Recollect having a 97 Hirtzberger Grauburgunder (PG) last year with a duck confit that made for an amazing combo.

And Dale, I feel your pain - that's one reason I buy so little Alsace wine. At least with Austrians and Germans it's relatively easy to figure out how dry or sweet something is!
