Celebrated a significant birthday a week ago but have not had a chance to post. Since it was more a chance to celebrate with friends, my notes are very sketchy and most of the wines did not get enough decant time. Friend did a wonderful job on the bbq and grilled some amazing steaks and other things to go with the wines.
Whites
1995 Joseph Perrier Champagne Cuvée Josephine - great champagne, vibrant, lively, elegant, slight nuttiness.
2003 Christian Moreau Chablis Grand Cru Le Clos- what a beautiful wine, solid, almost tropical, great density, with none of the austerity that I expect in a Chablis
2006 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Clos de la Barre - Almost the wine of the night, This thing has a nose that keeps going and going. Super Meursault
2006 Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Grande Montagne- unfortunately a very good wine in great company. lighter, more elegant but still very complete, minerally, more floral, very elegant.
Reds
1990 Domaine Joseph Druohlin Clos Vougeot Grand Cru - elegant, good balance, distinctive Pu Ehr tea nose
1990 Chapoutier hermitage Le Sizeranne - still hanging on a TOIG but starting to lose some density, great balance though still. Time to drink up?
1989 Chateau Grand Put Lacoste, Paulliac, wine is still very structured, losing most of its fruit.
1996 Cain Five, Amazing, Wine of the Night. Good density of fruit but balanced with amazing structure, great nose, out bordeauxs most bordeaux.
2001 Viader Red - Very nice, structure, solid fruit but lacking in some of the elegance of the Cain Five.
2003 Las Spinetta Sterder barolo - amazing given the vintage, solid without being over extracted. It is in a nice place right now, to be enjoyed in its youth.
For Dessert
1977 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port - Wow, this thing is still rather primal and young. Still needs more time, with air, some of the complexity is great. very yummy, burnt brown sugars, but still rather primary.
