Thank you God or Bacchus!

by JC (NC) » Mon Mar 29, 2010 4:42 pm

The God of wine must have been looking out for me this past weekend. I was removing a Volnay from the wine cooler to drink over the weekend and thought the pile was pretty stable. I turned my back to set the Volnay on the counter and heard a rush of tumbling bottles. Four or five bottles hit the dining room floor and none were broken! They included a Kosta Browne Pinot Noir, a Kurt Darting Beerenauslese, a 2001 Muller Catoir, and a Brunello di Montalcino (none of which I am willing to sacrifice.)

Fun story, JC, whether it was fortune or divine providence or a combination ...

I have heard that sound, JC and dread it. If I were you, I'd go buy a lottery ticket.

When are you coming back to DC for an offline? It sounds like you have some nice bottles to offer. (Jon, you never get the picture right! )
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

I was picking up a case (wooden) of '05 La Tour Carnet, Haut-Medoc) from a local store and the assistant wheeled it up to the cash register with a hand cart. A minute later I heard this loud crash and thought "somebody just lost some wine". As it turned out, he had placed the case on the counter, lost his balance and the whole box of wine came crashing to the floor. A credit to the designers of the wooden case, no wine was lost. There is more to the design than we might think.

James and Jon,
As a matter of fact, I may be in DC area May 21 and 22 (a Friday and Saturday.) My cousin's granddaughter is graduating from U of VA that weekend and we are planning a cousins' reunion in Richmond, VA the 19th and 20th and then I may go on to DC or Maryland. It may be tricky getting off from work that week due to my supervisor's scheduled vacation and a training day, but a new reference librarian just arrived from Germany so she may be ready to be in charge before May. (I supervised Katie, the new reference librarian, in Nuernberg and I'm delighted to be working with her again.) I'll keep you informed if I get the time off that week. Will you both be in town then as far as you know?

I recently had a box haphazardly placed as I was rearranging recently, next thing I knew it jumped off pile onto floor. 2 survivors, a Biale Zin met its fate. :)

I have several Biale Zins on hand. Would like to do a horizontal tasting with three that are same vintage but different vineyards.
