Proper glass for Moscato d'Asti/ Brachetto d'Acqui

by Gary Bobier » Sun Mar 28, 2010 4:22 pm

I enjoy these wines and would like to know if I am serving them in the proper style glass. What would be the most correct:

1. 3oz port glass
2. 5oz champagne
3. 8 1/2 oz generic white wine
4. 14oz red wine
5. 2oz pony glass

I list these because I have them.

Could you please tell me why you made the choice.

Well, when I've had Moscato or Brachetto in wine bars in Asti, they have served them in 'normal' wine glasses, so I'd either go with the 8.5 or the 14 ounce. The others are too small, and the nose wouldn't come through as much.

My vote goes to the white wine glass. Obviously my last name is not Riedel but I think glasses are overdone. We use everyday 12 oz whites, 16 oz reds and champagne flutes. Most of my beers go in the red glasses. You are serving a nice wine and the focus should be the wine, not the glass. I have some really big Riedel Bordeaux glasses and Burgundy glasses but seldom take them out of the cabinet except for just my wife and I. I hate washing them. OK, everyone can take a poke at that.

I'd probably go for the white, with flute as second choice.
I agree with Walt glassware isn't something to stress over.

Hi Gary,

This is the right glass for Moscato http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak ... 8872_n.jpg

I use normal white glasses.
