by Mike_F » Wed Mar 24, 2010 1:48 pm

The above-mentioned was a kind gift. What should I expect and when should it be opened?

thanks,

Mike

Haven't had the wine, but it should be a good experience: Terre Rouge makes the most European styled wines in Amador County. Never short on funk, and they age well.

Thanks Jenise. What does "never short on funk" mean in wine context? And when you say they age well, do you mean that a 2003 should be opened now, or kept for a while longer?

From my experience with Terre Rouge you can do either. I would likely open it now though, rather than wait for some undetemined optimal time.

Terre Rouge wines tend to have a lot of "earthy" characteristics. Mourvedre as a variety tends to accentuate that as well.

What David and Carl said. What I really meant by 'aging well' is that this wine is likely to be doing well right now and for the next, oh, five years--there are a lot of 7 year old California wines someone could give you that would be dicey to gone by now.

IIRC, we've opened a couple of bottles of that over the last year or so and it's been delicious. I agree with the others - you could probably keep it a while longer but it's nice stuff now.

I have been drinking thru a case of 2000 Easton Merlot, same folks as Terra Rouge, and they all have been just delicious. I would guess a 2003 would be just fine.
Cheers, Jim
