Some highlights from week 3 of Table & Vine's month long Burgundy tasting series. I will unfortunately miss week 4 next week.
2007 Louis Latour Meursault
Just a kiss of oak on the nose, and the fruit is precise, focused and quite tangy. Refreshing and overall quite tasty. Decent QPR at around $32 for this clear an expression of Meursault.
2006 Robert Chevillon Bourgogne Rouge
Floral, fruity & just a touch rustic from its Nuits origins. Nice wine, but the price now runs $30 which is tough QPR.
2005 Albert Morot Savigny-Les-Beaune Batailler
Loads of deep fruit, and yes a touch of vanilla oak, but there is more than enough wine here to ultimately absorb every stave of the barrels used to make this. The structure is in balance, and the finish is long and full of fruit. Excellent wine, and while $50 seems like a lot for Savigny, there is a lot here.
2007 Joseph Drouhin Gevrey Chambertin
Bright, fruity aromatcs. Very pure and focused with a bit of underlying power. Somewhat oaky now, but the overall impression is just lovely. Very good QPR at $40.
2004 Louis Jadot Gevrey Chambertin Clos St Jacques
Earthy, fruity, only ever so slightly herbal (and in more of a warm herb way than fresh, overly green herbs) and very suave. Lots of fruit and good acid and tannic balance. Drinks reasonably well now, but a few more years would not do any harm. Probably the best 2004 poured during this series.
