WTN: Wine before Rock Band

by David M. Bueker » Sun Mar 21, 2010 9:41 am

Evening with some friends. We enjoyed the Kansas/Northern Iowa game (despite the resulting destruction of my bracket), and then had dinner & I finally played the video game Rock Band. Oh my is that addictive.

We had some wine as well.

1999 Le Brun Servenay Blancs de Blanc
Fresh, yeasty & showing plenty of fruit. Good stuff if a bit simple. For the price ($30) it's a good deal in Champagne.

2007 Zilliken Saarburger Rausch Riesling Kabinett
A wine that puts some of the zing back in 2007 German Riesling. This is still quite ripe, but retains more of the essential balance that makes the genre exciting to me.

2001 Chateau Quinault l'Enclos
Lightly spicy, generously fruity & very easy to drink. Ready to go right now, as it is never going to win complexity contests, but gives a lot of pleasure in a more structured than top Cali Cab sort of way.

Rock Band got easier the more I drank. I especially enjoyed it when the vocalist (Laura) would grab a glass of wine between songs. :)

I recall opening one of these 6-12 months back and being disappointed. Thankfully tonight's bottle was much more enjoyable. This time around the apple and honey melon flavours with a hint of wild honey have started to take on new depth as the colour of the wine is just starting to move out of the pale pale green phase. Overall a lovely wine
