Last night our power was still MIA , went to friends' home for a St Patrick's day feast- salad, cormed beef and cabbage with the usual veggies, etc. My only contribution was the horseradish sauce (made with fromage blanc, using stuff from our cooler) and a bottle of Loire red (they had black and tans, but the host has uric acid issues and Betsy doesn't like beer)
2007 Guion "Cuvee Domaine" Bourgueil
This is the basic bottling from Guion, and I've thought it a great value in prior vintage. This starts out with acids and little fruit, some bell pepper. coming across as less than charming. Improves with air, red fruit rounds out, ends up as satisfactorty, but I preferred 2006. B-/C+
2008 Pezzalunga Rosso (Oltrepo Pavese)
Not sure of grapes here. Good acid, a hint of prickliness. Raspberry/cranberry fruit, fruity and lively, nice fresh wine. B
Nice way to spend the evening before returning to dark home (Betsy just called to tell me power restored this AM)
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
