Tasting at Table & Vine:
The whites:
2006 Manciat Macon-Charnay
Slightly oxidative on the nose, but also very fruity. Bright acidity and enjoyable now, though I would drink up.
2005 Jouard Chassagne-Montrachet VV
Spicy and slightly sour in its frut expression, but opens up nicely into a medium bodied, fruit forward wine that is marred by a bit of back end heat.
2004 J-M Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot
Bright and refreshing, but empty on the mid-palate. Poor QPR at $75.
The reds:
2008 Hubert Chavy Bourgogne
My first 2008, and it's a friendly one. Lots of berry fruit and good brightness. Very tasty wine right now.
2006 Joseph Drouhin Santenay
Very dark in style, perhaps too dark for Santenay. It's not that the wine is overextracted or overripe, but rather it's dour in style. There's good fruit and plenty of depth, but no life.
2005 Remi Rollin Pernand Verglesses
Ripe fruit that combines the freshness of the preceeding 2008 with the weight of the Drouhin Santenay. Very nice balance and emerging complexity. QPR of the night at $30.
2005 Charache-Bergeret Pommard
Advanced fruit and strong tannin create poor balance. This is going nowhere good.
2005 De Courcel Pommard 1er Cru Fremiers
This is quite delcious. There's lots of ripe, fresh fruit and fabulous overall concentration with appropriate balancing acidity/tannin. It has some creamy oak, but more than enough fruit to not only compensate but likely age quite gracefully. Excellent wine.
2004 Bocquenet Nuits-St-Georges
Mildly herbal, lots of fresh finishing fruit. Not too tannic for NSG. Enjoyable now for those not bothered by the green elements of 2004 (like me).
2004 J-F Mugnier Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Marechale
Showing a lot of fruit now along with warm herbs (rather than strong, green herbs). This appears to be melding into a more cohesive wine than in the past. Some earthy elements coming out, and it's quite suave. Still needs time and can profit from it.
2005 Thibault Liger-Belair Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les St Georges
Very ripe and a little bit funky on the nose. It's the richest and the oakiest wine of hte night. There's good acidity but also very firm, harsh tannins on the back end. Not sure where this is headed as it seems rather brutally extracted.
Fun night of exploration.
