WTN: Casa Lapostolle Cuvee Alexandre Syrah 2004

Cachapoal Valley, Las Kuras Vineyard

Decanted about 20 minutes before dinner.

Very dark purple in the glass.

A lovely nose: toast, black cherry, earthy, cedar, chocolate and mint.

Quite tangy, mint, chocolate, thick and weighty in the mouth, black cherry, spicy, vanilla extract, rich, intense, drying, tarry-roasted, pencil lead.

Toward the end of the decanter, the 14.5 per cent alcohol made its presence felt and the wine tasted a little harsh.

A long, rich finish.

A truly decadent wine (before the alcohol kicked in).

Went very well with some nice steak.
