WTN: 1999 Leoville Barton

by David M. Bueker » Sat Mar 13, 2010 5:45 pm

Spurred on by David Lole's note on the '86 I have opened the '99 for tonight. A quick peek reveals a wine that is still fairly fruity, and in a nice spot for drinking as the tannins (never huge in this wine) have mellowed to a reasonably soft framework. It's medium bodied and should prove to be very food friendly.

Because it's my only (half) bottle, and I'm wondering if it may benefit from patience at my end (as I do tend to like Bordeaux with less fruit and more developed flavours).

And because I've got that 08 Schmitt-Wagner in the fridge! :)

If it's your only half-bottle, you might as well see what it's like

And a bottle of German wine plus a half-bottle of Bordeaux sounds like just the right amount!

Salil - I have 19 more half bottles. It's ok, you'll get to try it again.

David, I have had the 1999 probably 10 times now since the first bottle I opened in 2003. It has always shown well, and it is one of my favorite recent vintages. I still have a couple of bottles and a mag left.
Cheers, Jim

I am down to 5 750s, and every one I have opened has been tasty as well.

I like most 99s for current drinking but have been holding back my Léoville-Barton. Sounds as if I should crack them without too much delay.

I see no real reason to hurry Tim, but the wine is tasty now.
