Grapevine moth forces Napa quarantine

by Florida Jim » Sat Mar 13, 2010 8:45 am

Yesterday, the Cal. Dept. of Food and Agr. imposed a quarantine on 162 sq. miles of Napa, Sonoma and Solano counties which prohibits grapes grown in those areas to be transported outside those areas.

More technical info http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/EXOTIC/eurograpevinemoth.html

Sounds like California has up to now not had to deal with any of the different grape berry moths in the world. Will be interesting to see how they respond. This is the one pest that keeps me from being completely pesticide free. I am trying to control it with IPM coupled with BT and have made some progress over the last few years but if I was doing this commercially I would have had to move to something more effective long ago.
