WTN: Vinya l'Hereu Flor de Grealo 2005 and Henriot Champagne

Lots of wine opened last night at Ralph's Wine Museum but nothing too interesting except for these two.

Vinya l'Hereu Flor de Grealo 2005 - From Costers del Segre. Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah. Very dark and youthful looking. First thing on the nose is ripe, almost jammy berries but underneath that is a strong mushroom/earth component which makes the wine taste pretty wild. Rich, complex, very tannic. Later, a little coffee as well. This needs a couple of years to shed the tannins. Maybe try again in 2013?

Champagne Henriot Brut Souverain NV - A rather lightish Champagne. Good fruit. Silky mouthfeel. Green apple freshness. A little toastiness on the finish. Good and rather easy style of Champagne.

Jay,

I make a trip to Manila, at the very least, once a year. It's the first time that I've heard of a wine museum. I'm interested ... so, where is this place?
Thanks.

It was supposed to be a museum but it never really got off the ground although the name stuck. It's a restaurant and hotel run by the Philippine Wine Merchants (PWM) group. This is located at Tramo, Pasay City, near the airport. Good Spanish food. PWM uses it as a venue for tastings.
