2008 CdR

by Bob Henrick » Sat Mar 06, 2010 8:20 pm

Ok, now the 2007's are thinning if not gone, so I am asking about the 2008. I have been drinking the 2007 and enjoying them quite a lot. I have bought (I think) 7 of the 3 liter bag in box of the Alain Jaume Grand Venur, but alas the '07 is now gone, and the '08 is in it's place. I will likely get some of the 2008, b.uit whether I get 1 or 4 might well depend on what I hear/read here.

My dad tasted it recently & thought it was quite good. I have not yet tried it.

Thanks David. Jaume does pretty well with what he has to work with every year.

As a generalization, the 08s are leaner and more structured, more like the 04s. I haven't tasted Grand Veneur in 08. I find it fairly consistent, stressing fruit forwardness and a sweet palate, year after year. I expect if you like the style, you won't like the 08 as much as you did the 07, but you won't be unhappy.

Chef, I got the 2007 at $34.99 plus 6% tax and minus a 5% discount, I guess those pretty much offset. That worked out to $8.75 per bottle. I have really enjoyed the 2007, and still have 3 boxes of it left, so I haven't yet purchased the 2008.I saw 2008 Saturday, and the price was up $5 to $39.99. This store will give a 10% discount for a 12 bottle case or equivalent. Anyway the current answer is $40 or the per bottle is $10 each. The same wine in bottle is is about $15 so it is still a good buy.
