WTN: 2006 Rkatsiteli Finger Lakes, Dr. Konstantin Frank

This is the very first wine I've ever tasted from Dr. Frank's winery, or made from the rkatsiteli grape.

This is a true delight! It strikes me as very continental European in style, in the tradition of the best from Germany, Austria, or Hungary. The color is pale yellow, with just a hint of spritz (bubbles appear on walls of the glass). There are exuberant and very complex aromas of various fruits and herbs--melons, lemon, perhaps a hint of cloves and thyme. It's hard to tell exactly. In the mouth, we have orange and lemon and lime citrus-type flavors, with bracing acidity, and then a peacock finish with the herbal elements reasserting themselves. Every mouthful makes you want to sip another. I thought one had to go to Germany or Austria or Hungary to get white wine without fat fruit.

Double Curly Larry on the Stooges scale. There is nothing not to like about this wine!
