every time I open an aged bottle of JJ Prum's Wehlener Sonnenuhr auslese I am impressed with the vineyard, the winemaking, and the just plain yumminess of the wine. This time: Wtn: 1997 JJ Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr auslese - light golden color, still some bubbles with an lovely light petrolly nose, extraordinarily light but intensely flavorful seamless flavors of white clover, grass, honey, stones, with the impression of everything dancing together. Just wonderful with dinner of pork loin, homemade sauerkraut, broccoli and homemade applesauce. Just buy a few, put them away for 10 years and then be amazed. A pure delight. Jim

Yep.

Never hurts to say it again though.

Sounds good. Although we had a tough time coaxing fun out of the 98 WS Kabinett the other night.

How were 95 and 99 from JJ Prum? I managed to score some direct from Germany recently,

I have been keeping watch over my single bottle of 97 WS auslese fearfull that if I left it out of my sight for anything longer than a minute my wife would have this open. Is now the time to let her have her way with the bottle or should I keep watch for a while longer?

I love the JJ Prum wines. Over the years I cannot remember having a bad bottle. In old days, I was able to afford to buy quite a bit of the Prum, but as prices have increased I have cut back. We just tasted a '99 WS Spat. this fall, and after about 30 minutes in a decanter it was wonderful.

PS: I just noticed my new "I am Sam, Sam I am" moniker. Not sure how it got changed, but it fits quite nicely. I hope that I don't channel Shaun Penn from his movie role of the same name in my posts. :)

Sam,

Jenise is keeper of snazzy titles. When you hit 1,000 posts you can pick your own, or if you don't Jenise will likey pick one for you. She is quite frequently right on the mark.

Rahsaan,

I'm not sure that one can ever coax fun out of older Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett. It doesn't age into something fun, rather it ages into something quite teutonic and serious (or redundant).

Well at least I don't have to feel bad about not tasting the remains of the bottle the next day.

Well in this case it wasn't entirely up to me as it was someone else's bottle.

But, if it had been my bottle I would have certainly been more careful!
