Upcoming Robert Mondavi wine dinner in Raleigh

by JC (NC) » Mon Mar 01, 2010 2:59 pm

I will be attending this dinner at Angus Barn, March 20th. I've never dined at Angus Barn before (probably the most extensive wine list in the Triangle) so decided this would be a good time to dine there. I hope they serve one or more older Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve vintages. I've had tastes of the '94, '97 and '99 I believe. (Oops, just looked at the website and we will be having the '91, '92, '93 and '94 reserves.)

The Angus Barn brings back fond memories of too much good food and good drink whenever we corporate types descended upon our Raleigh office.. Ah, the joys of living fat off the old expense account. :D It has been over 15 years since I've been there, but hope for your sake you find it as good as I recall it to have been way back when.

Great! Those will be the real Mondavi wines, made when Bob was still running things. I loved them then. Is there still a Mondavi Reserve Cab made? I've completely lost track (and interest in the wines) since the sell-off.

Jenise, as of 2005 anyway there is still something under that name. The 2005 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is shown at retail sources for about $90-$100 and received the following points:
Stephen Tanzer International Wine Cellar: 91 points
"Wine Spectator": 92 points
"Wine Advocate": 90 points

81% from To-Kalon fruit.

That should be great. I still have a few bottles of the '90, '91 and '94 Reserves. Very nice wines.

We will be in the Wine Cellar--Thad's Room or Alice's room (or maybe both rooms)

http://www.angusbarn.com/thads.htm

I have made a reservation at a nearby motel so that I won't be driving back to Fayetteville after trying the wines (a Fume Blanc, Chardonnay, four Cabernet Sauvignon Reserves and a Moscato d'Oro.
