Continues to be an impenetrably dark, robust CdR that bears little resemblance to something I normally associate with Cotes du Rhone or even richer wines like Chateauneuf du Pape. This is a monstrous wine, and quite low acid, such that it really lacks energy, instead enveloping the palate in some kind of purplish glop. The closest I can come to in terms of a comparison is an Alban Grenache I had some time back. Sheesh.
David,
I know that you have been a fan of some of the 2007 CdR that you have had, as am I. I have had the entry level Ségriès and it was quite fine in a sub $10 way, and I would buy more. It would make a fine bbq wine. . I have seen the l'Hermitage on the shelves and have not bit on them because of the $30 price. I have also seen the 2007 Les Champauvins, at $20, and am about to bite the bullet based on how much I like the regular bottling of the 2007 Grand Venur. I have been buying the latter wine in 3 liter boxes which brings the price down to the equivalent of $8.50 per bottle. If you have had the Les Champauvins, is it that much better than the entry level CdR? All of these wines are imported by Fran Kysela.
