1990 Produttori Barbaresco

My last bottle :( of a gorgeous wine. Even if not a single vineyard, theses guys always produce top quality wine. Ruby light color, nose of earth and mushrooms, but the usual nebbiolo scents as well - rose petals and tar. The structure is excellent and this wine is vibrant and bright and still going strong at the tender age of twenty. Too bad the price has doubled since I bought a sixpack three years ago ($100 vs $50 at Chambers).

I kept telling people to shut up when they kept raving about Produttori del Barbaresco, but they just kept on. It's like every great value/undervalued wine, if enough people say it, goodbye good prices! See Mugnier, Lynch Bages, etc etc

But definitely my favorite co-op in the world (edges Domane Wachau)

And they use purchased yeasts to boot.

Good point. However, my thinking was that if they do add cultured yeast, that it becomes more costly for them to produce them than just to buy 'em.

... and indeed this year has seen the price go through the roof over here - at available prices, no longer a value purchase.

So my case of 1999 magnums @ $60 was a good catch?

This has turned out to be one of my great wine steal stories. The local importer apparently bust down up and a large selection of his stock was sold off quickly through a major wine auction house. I ended up buying 5-6 6 packs of the 1996 & 1997 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Pora & Paje at around $30 pb. If I had know just how good they were going to turn out I should have picked up another 6 cases of the other single vineyards from these 2 years. Nevertheless they have been great drinking. :D :D

So, if I can purchase a couple of cases of 2001 for $50 a bottle, I should?

For the normale? Very steep price. I paid $23 for the 01. You can still find the single vineyard riservas for less than $50.

The 2006 regular can be had for $25. The single vineyard 2001 and 2004 should go for $40-$50
