After a couple of meetings for the Chaine des Rotisseurs Thursday night, I dropped by Ralph's Wine Museum as I hadn't been there in a while. Lucky for me Ronnie decided to open two interesting bottles.
Allegrini Amarone 2000 - Very dark. Quite strong cocoa on the nose leaps out of the glass. Primarily raisins and a little plum and dried berries. After about 30 minutes, some baking spices. Medium-bodied and ready to drink. Fades a bit on the finish. Admittedly, the bottle was not stored in optimum conditions as this was part of a stock of supermarket wines taken over by Philippine Wine Merchants. Still, not a bad bottle.
Champagne Marguet Grand Cru Brut Rose NV - Attractive faded rose color. Quite fruity with cherries and strawberries mostly. Round and medium-bodied. Very friendly and easy. There's a little coffee note that appears on the slightly bitter but rather long finish. Not for those looking for complexity but I enjoyed it.
