WTN: Another new grape for me, this time Greek

  • 2008 Olympus Hellas Moschofilero Haggipavlu - Greece, Peloponnisos, Mantinia (2/24/2010)
13,90€; 11,5% abv; 5,5 g/l acidity. This is the first Moschofilero I have tried, so I have no idea about typicity. But I liked this little wine. Very light colour. It smells of minerals, green apples and ripe citrus fruits. Maybe the closest I can compare it to is Muscadet with a tiny hint of Muscat-like aromas of flowers and grapes. Pleasantly light and crisp, much citrus, richer and fruitier on the finish. A fun little wine, but rather overpriced here for what it is.

I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

I quite enjoy Moschofilero, Otto, even though there's not a lot of availability of it here in the Pacific NW.

Only one I know of actually---although I haven't exactly been beating the bushes for others. :D

You describe it pretty well, I think. It's a light Muscat-ish wine, without being quite as pungent and musky as a full-blown muscat/moscato, fruity and bright and crisp, with sometimes a touch of residual sugar perhaps. Wonderful summertime drink, very refreshing and quaffable.
