Pardon me for asking again

by Ines Nyby » Fri Feb 19, 2010 7:36 pm

I know this subject has been addressed before, and I did a search which led me to a multitude of long threads on whys and wherefores, but I 'd just like a simple answer: Does it matter how I store my screwcapped bottles in the cellar? Upright, laying down, upside down. Does it matter over the mid to long term?
Thanks for replying.

The only precaution with screwcapped bottles is avoiding any impact on the screwcap itself, as that could compromise its seal. For that reason, I usually store them upright in the cellar rather than in the racking, as I believe that it reduces the risk slightly. Other than that, I agree with David 100%.

The option of upside down for long storage is acceptable? I would not care for all of that sediment at the very top of the bottle.

I keep my screwcapped bottles upright. Then the wine is only in contact with glass -- not screwcap lining.

The only purpose in laying wine on their sides is so the cork is kept moist by the wine to stop it drying out.
