WTN: Lunch at Marea in NYC

by Diane (Long Island) » Mon Feb 15, 2010 6:37 pm

Michael White has hit a trifecta with Marea in the old San Domenico space on Central Park South. The other two restaurants are the terrific Convivo and Alto.

This predominantly fish restaurant offers a two course prix fixe, with the option of adding a course or two. Two courses were enough for me for lunch. I started with grilled octopus on couscous with candied pine nuts and diced apricots. My main course was John Dory with brussels sprouts, thick chunks of bacon, salisfy ribbons and puree, drizzled with olive oil. A 2007 Sartarelli Verdicchio was a nice pairing with the dishes. The wine showed a briny and light citrus nose. It was mouth coating with minerals and lime and a long finish. A plate of delicious mignardise - carrot cake, linzer tarts, and a decadent chocolate tart completed the meal.
