WTN: tasty full framed Gruner

by Dale Williams » Fri Feb 12, 2010 5:20 pm

Wednesday as the snow was falling, chicken fried rice, sauteed mustard greeens, and the 2007 Donabaum "Spitzer Point" Gruner Veltliner Smaragd. Big wine, ripe tropical and citrus fruit, sweet green peas, a little pepper. Really quite full bodied, juicy, with enough acidity to keep it lively. Thursday was a long day with shoveling and a board meeting, some leftover Gruner was just what I needed when I finally made it home. On day 2 it seemed softer, I wondered if there was just a trace of RS. In any case, a very nice and refreshing wine. B+/A-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
