Another focus of the Table & Vine tasting with Fred Ek was the wines of Guigal.
2008 E. Guigal Cotes du Rhone Blanc
Soft, peachy, floral aromatics. Shows mild spice on the palate and drinks easily.
2005 E. Guigal Crozes-Hermitage
Tart black fruit, spice, austerity and slightly tannic. A little more body would be nice, but in its current form very drinkable now.
2005 E. Guigal Gigondas
Herbal, red fruited and shows subtle soil tones. Easy but very nice.
2005 E. Guigal Chateauneuf du Pape
Deep red fruit, warm herb and earth. Flawless in a too pefect sort of way, but certainly enjoyable (if not memorable) to drink.
2000 E. Guigal Cote Rotie Chateau d'Ampuis
Meaty, slight bacon fat, oaky but not overdone. Not sure it has the body to withstand enough aging to gain true complexity. Reminds me of other 2000s I have had in that it is just shy of having quite enough wine. Sort of 725 mls of wine to fill up a 750 ml bottle.
