WTN: two nice wines, one red, one white

by Jim Grow » Mon Feb 08, 2010 11:26 pm

I am single tonight while my wife is in Florida (color me jealous) so I opened a 2007 Sundance Red from Soos Creek with heated up lasagna on the wood stove (no power at the time). I gave it 1 hr. to breath in a crafe but that was not enough. This red finally came around with sweet cherry and cinnamon and slightly high tannins that mellowed out over time. This wine needs a few more years but I only have one more so that is not likely. I am looking forward to their Artist Series 2006 which I also have but will wait a few years on that one.

As an after-dinner sip, I opened the 2006 Selbach-Oster Bernkasteler Badstube Auslese* Riesling. This was said to be near BA in extraction/intensity and I believe it. Lots of peach flavors, plenty of sweetness and great acidity with slight spritz. Medium straw in color, this wine has many, many years to develope. For $27 I'll be looking to get more of this.

Glad to read a report about Soos Creek (a Washington boutique winery for onlookers). Owner-winemaker Dave Larsen produces some very classy wines at very reasonable prices.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
