Muller-Catoir Haardter Burgergarten Riesling Spatlese 2008 - Slight green tinge. Just a little spritz. Not much on the nose. Maybe a little creamy but that's all. Rich and full; this wine has some heft to it. Sweet, ripe, grapey, apple and yellow tropical fruits - mango and pineapple according to Jocel. Apple and grape skins texture. Although this is definitely sweet, there's a subtle acidity that gives this wine a refreshing quality. Tremendous length on the finish with grapefruit, dried apricots, sweet spices and a touch of burnt sugar. What a mouthfull! Very complex although still young and primary. Real easy to drink and enjoy. I would expect this will gain even more complexity over the next 5 years or so. Very impressive. Outstanding stuff. Jocel and I polished off the whole bottle over a 2 hour lunch without any difficulty.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.

Martin Franzen seems to really have found his stride with the Catoir sites and grapes. I'm glad, as there was a several year period where Catoir fell off my radar post Hans Gunter Schwarz's retirement.
