Notes from dinner at the newish Brasserie Boheme at the Hotel Picasso.
Il Roccolo Riesling Italico - From Oltrepo Pavese. As far as I could tell, this is non-vintage. Although we were told this was a Riesling, Riesling Italico isn't the true Riesling with its home in Germany. The German name for this grape is Welschriesling. A bit spritzy. Very little flavor. Mostly lemony. Not at all interesting,
Looking Glass Sauvignon Blanc 2008 - From Marlborough, NZ. Green pepper on the nose. Flavor of guava, especially on the finish. There's also a bit of grapefruit. Quite dry on the palate. Appetizing and quite good.
Chateau Fombrauge 2002 - St. Emilion Grand Cru. Good nose. Sweet and just a little earthy. Rather modern. Sweet fruit and tobacco, rich, but quite dry on the palate, with the ripe fruit showing its sweetness only on the finish. Good complexity. Already soft and and probably at peak now. Excellent.
