WTN: TreViti Syrah CentralCoast '04...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Fri Feb 05, 2010 10:45 am

Had this last night w/ my pork samwich:
1. TresViti Syrah CentralCoast (14.0%; www.TreViti.com) StoloFamilyVnyds P&B by StephenDooley/SLO 2004: Very dark color; beautiful smokey/bacon fat/bit Rhonish/roasted/pungent slight ozone/WWII beacon strong blackberry/Syrah/spicy/bit peppery rather complex nose; tart rather smokey/bacom fat/Rhonish/pungent rather spicy/peppery/blackberry/black cherry/Syrah/slight boysenberry bit tannic complex flavor; very long smooth pungent/espresso/Rhonish/roasted/smokey strong blackberry/Syrah/spicy/peppery complex finish w/ slight tannic afterbite; a beautiful/complex classic cold-climate Syrah w/ some NorthernRhone character; needs another yr or two but terrific drinking now.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. I hate it when I grab a throw-away btl like this for a simple meal after a tough night on the fencing strip. The wine was so friggin' good that I drank nearly 2/3'rd the btl. Not good.

2. TreViti is the wnry way over by Cambria, just a few miles from the Pacific. One of the coldest Syrah vnyds in Calif (plus Pinot and Chard and some SB coming online). Maria Bendetti is the mind behind. A really beautiful property that I visited last Spring. A wnry to keep your eye upon.
This wine has a simple CentralCoast appellation. Could have been SLOCnty. One yr, they got a Cambria by on the label, but Cambria is not an official AVA.
Winemaker is SteveDooley, formerly of Talley, and now of his own label. One of the best in the area.
