WTN: Leftovers

by Salil » Fri Jan 29, 2010 3:25 pm

With dinner yesterday

2008 Van Volxem Wawerner Goldberg Riesling Erste Lage
Two glasses left after I'd opened the bottle almost two days ago. It's still fantastic, perhaps even better then (!) than it was after opening - the fruit's still very fresh, ranging from apple and pear to tarter citrus, and there are layers of smoky, herbal and savoury beeswaxy and earthy flavours mingled in. Great wine.

2001 Domaine des Baumard Coteaux du Layon Clos de Sainte Catherine
From a bottle that's been sitting in the fridge over the past week and a half, with the odd glass being poured every few nights (this is in a 750, and as tasty as this wine is I wouldn't want to drink more than a glass at any point in time). Showing no signs of fading/tiring with bright mandarin orange, apricot and tropical fruits drenched in honey with faint herbal and waxy notes underneath. Very sweet and rich, but there's really good acidity keeping it quite fresh and I wish I'd bought a few more of these when Crush had them at $25 a bottle. Darn.

I don't think I have ever ever even thought that, let alone done it.
