AJ Adam Dhron Hofberg Riesling Spatlese is a ridiculous wine - I've been blown away by it twice in the last couple of months, and this bottle was no different - explosive fruit ranging from ripe peach to citrus and apple flavours, herbal and floral elements giving it a slightly exotic touch and a really intense mineral core underneath. Very light on its feet with brilliant acidity balancing the sweetness and incredible length - a wow wine without a doubt.
Van Volxem Wawerner Goldberg (Erste Lage?) is a really fascinating bottle of Riesling and one I am glad I could sit down with over a few hours and explore. Gorgeous aromatics combining pear and appleskin with minerals and herbal elements, starts to develop with some air and pick up honeyed and smoky notes. It's quite rich in the mouth with a slightly velvety texture, bright Saar apple and citrus fruit over savoury beeswax, earthy and mineral flavours, kept in very good balance with good acidity and finishes long with a combination of slightly sweet and savoury flavours. Really great bottle at the price (about $30 from Crush) and I'm glad to have more of both wines.
