WTN: La Fleur de Bouard 2006

by Jay Labrador » Wed Jan 27, 2010 11:45 am

I wasn't able to join Lester for lunch today but I was able to show up late in time for a glass of La Fleur de Bouard 2006 from Lalande de Pomerol, courtesy of Rene Fuentes, Sr.

Very dark. Big and rich. Strong coffee and chocolate on the palate although after about 30 minutes in the glass, the cedar and wood starts to show up. Lots of ripe fruit. Strong tannins on the finish. A very modern style Bordeaux and I'm sure not to everyone's taste. I thought it was very good although it needs a few years to shed the tannins.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.

My only experience with this wine is the '99 tasted in the past year. It was divine--didn't seem all that modern to me. Wonder if that's just the magic of age or a style change.

Haven't had one of these in a few years. As with Jenise's experience, I don't remember them being noticeably modern. I also wonder if they made a conscious effort to change style or if this is just how the '06 turned out.

Good point about the third possibility.

The '00 and '01 are modern wines indeed. '99 was not a vintage that allowed particularly modern wines IMO, at least not in comparison to say 2000. That being said, I have some of the '00 and '01 laying around & will have a look some time soon. They were quite rich and full.
