Tom Stevenson Wine Report

by Michael K » Tue Jan 26, 2010 2:57 pm

I had been waiting for the 2010 to be released and did not realize that it had been cancelled....actually some time ago. Too bad, I use to look forward to it every year.

Michael, Hi....

As one of the regular contributors to Tom's Wine Report since its inception, I also miss this annual publication. I cannot speak for Tom of course but I continue to hope that another publisher will jump in to fill the gap.

Sorry to read about its discontinuation. I always found the report to be an interesting read, not some much for its wine recs, but for his commentary on the various winemakers and controversial issues in each region.

I'm sitting here looking at the '04, '05, '06, and '09. We were in flux during '07 and '08. Sorry there is no '10.

That's a shame. I was actually just thinking about buying his old Alsace book. But it's just too old at this point. Any word on when/if he is going to update it? I know he was planning on it.

I think forumite Wink Lorch has usually done the Jurassic stuff. Gladly she has posted a "roundup" of Savoie stuff on her blog: http://winklorch.blogspot.com/2010/01/s ... te-in.html . Indeed a shame not to see it this year.

Yes, we contributors miss Wine Report too even though it was a lot of work. No news on 2011 yet and getting a bit late now.

Thanks Otto for linking to my blog post with the Savoie update - I'll try to do a Jura one in a couple of months. Anyone interested will find links to PDF downloads of my chapter in all the previous Wine Report editions on an earlier post on that blog.

I don't think Tom is planning any update of his Alsace book - it's hard to get publishers interested in this type of book any more, sadly. However, I can tell you that all Tom's chapters from Wine Report 2004 - 2009 on Champagne, Alsace plus the intros are available to download as PDFs on Wine Pages.
