Casa Ermelinda Freitas
DOC Palmela

A blend of Castelao, Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Dark red in the glass.

Smoky and cherry on the nose.

Medium weight, quite juicy and fleshy, currants, cherry, raspberry, red licorice, a good tangy edge, spicy, with a bitter streak.

Mouthwatering, cherry, red licorice, peppery with some bitterness on the finish.

A very pleasant wine, but I found the ever present bitter streak a bit distracting.

Purchased at $12.95 (Canadian).

Bruce - is the producer of that wine Casa Ermelinda Freitas? Dona Ermelinda (Pamela DOC) is a 100% Castelao (aka Periquita) which is quite tasty in a dark, dusky, low-acidity style and is dirt-cheap ($8 here). No bitter notes in the bottles that I have tried, so maybe that is some other element in the blend?

You are correct. I should have included the name of the producer in my WTN.
