WTN: '08 Vouvray, "La Dilettante"

by Mike Filigenzi » Sun Jan 24, 2010 3:21 pm

I noticed this bottle while browsing at the market around the corner yesterday. This one's made by Catherine and Pierre Breton and imported by Kermit Lynch. In small letters on the side of the label are the words "Chenin sec" (from what I've read, this is their first release of a dry Vouvray). 12% alcohol and $17.95. It's really tasty stuff. Very aromatic, lots of upfront citrusy fruit, but bone dry with bracing acidity and some stony minerality. I'm not as up on my Vouvray as many of you here are, but to me this is what I look for in such wines. This is one of those that might improve in the bottle for a couple of years but will be hard to leave alone that long.

Sounds like a Vouvray I might enjoy! Lucky you to have access eh.
Lots of Loire action on the forums I frequent right now.

Mike, do you follow Jim Budds blog?

This is of interest too, maybe.

It's made more by Catherine than Pierre, and the name is an inside joke about that...

Have been impressed with the Breton's Vouvray, which comes from vineyards owned by Catherine's family.

Thanks Mike. I picked up a couple of bottles of this last summer but haven't opened yet. Time to try it.
