2001 Edmunds St. John Syrah Wylie-Fenaughty
9 years old, though (predictably) still a youngster. This has tons of youthful, grapey fruit, but also a backbone of stone and tannin. The balance makes it very enjoyable to drink now, but it has the concentration and balance to age for a long while yet. Paired with chili (love that Rancho Gordo chili powder) it was a perfect match.

Still grapey? Wow. I guess patience is in order. But I am sure it will be rewarded.

Hmmm, 11 of these left, so I might just have to open one soon.

Just polishing off the last glass tonight, and it's showing a much more meaty character, though still a ton of fruit. I would give this a good decant if you are going to open it now Winger.
