WTN: Pitter-Patter-berg

by David M. Bueker » Sat Jan 23, 2010 10:02 am

After a night of hedonistic excess on Thursday, I took it easy on Friday with a bottle of:

2000 J. u. H. A. Strub Niersteiner Paterberg Riesling Spatlese
Many 2000s have had a troubled evolution. Not this bottle. In fact it really needs additional evolution, as it is just starting to display some engaging spice notes to supplement that typically peachy Paterberg fruit. There's nothing unclean/dubious in the aromas or flavors, so it has escaped the most common trap of 2000. The balance is good, and it glides across the palate in a very refreshing, classically spatlese sort of way.

That sounds really impressive, especially given the issues with the vintage. (I can see why we both were going for low alcohol levels last night - I'd pulled a Kabinett :))
