WTN:1996 Schloss Schonborn Estate Riesling Kabinett Rheingau.

Just released by the winery, $26 Cdn, 8.5% alc, great natural cork. A.P #
31 052 028 97. Opened for half hour, first tasted in Nov when sales manager was in Alberta.

The color is verging on a medium gold. Hints of petrol on the nose along with some mineral tones, peach, lemon. The nose is still active after being opened 2 days.
Initial entry thoughts were, full-mature, very good acidity with RS balanced nicely. I feel that this wine is at its peak so good timing by SS.
White stonefruit, apricot, long citric finish. I had to serve fairly chilled as it was too cloying for me when warming up.
I am a big believer in leaving my German wines in the cellar (sometimes too long!) so nice to grab this wine right off the shelf downtown. Very enjoyable.

The 97 AP number makes perfect sense for a 96 if they bottled it all back then & just held the bottled wine.

I have some von Schubert Herrenberg 1990 with a 96 AP number. It was explained that was because of late release. But I guess that they can also register and hold.

Yes. Estates do both.
