WTN: 2000 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port

by David M. Bueker » Sun Jan 17, 2010 8:08 pm

Decided to peek in on this wine from a 375ml. Opened it last night & poured a few ounces. I let that sit in a glass for 2 hours then tried it. The stuff was hard as nails. Anyone who bemoans the lack of tannins in modern vintage Port should try this wine. It completely dried out my mouth. There's plenty of fruit and extract, but it's dominated by tannin.

Tonight, after 24 hours in the stoppered bottle there is deeper fruit but still immense structure. The spirits are well integrated, but this wine needs tons of time. If I want to peek in on a 2000 vintage Port in the next 5-10 years I may try a Graham's or Gould Campbell, but I sure won't open a Taylor!
