WTN: 2006 Havens Merlot

Warm red fruit with a haze of chocolate and brown sugar. More developed than expected but in a good way, and (hey Brian!) no brett. The noticeably high alcohol bites a bit on the finish, unfortunately, but it's nonetheless a pretty good wine for $6.99 and will be a good summer quaffer.

Too bad that there will be no more. There have been some real fire sales on Havens wine on the east coast. The winery is out of business.

Hope you stocked up, Dick! I bought two cases on blind faith, having liked Havens merlots a lot in the past. Was nervous about Brian's report of brett on the 05, but mine are fine.

I bought a different botteling from the '04 vintage.
