WTN: Queen Of Syrah Cool Climate Syrah 2007

Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes
Cave De Tain

Dark red in the glass.

Perfume, black fruit, chocolate and smoky on the lovely nose.

Light to medium weight, drying, very tart and tangy, black cherry, raspberry, smoky, floral, a mild bitter streak, rather lean bordering on austere.

Became even drier and tangier with time.

Mouthwatering, tangy finish.

Yuck. Quite surprised that Cave De Tain would lend its name to this. Then again, I didn't pay much.

Purchased at $11.95 (Canadian).

Hmmmm. Sounds like it might be nice, actually. was it the drying finish or the bitter note that turned you off of it?

To start, the nose, as I indicated was lovely, so the fact that the taste didn't match the nose at all was a bit of a shock. I don't mind a bitter streak, provided that it doesn't overwhelm, so I suppose it was fact the wine was rather thin and too tart.
