2001 Riesling Spaetlese, Munsterer Dautenpflaenzer, Kruger-Rumpf (Nahe):
Cork looked a bit dodgy and wet, with some mold under the capsule. But the color was only a light gold, quite normal for riesling of this age. Somewhat restrained nose, with light tropical fruit and a touch of piney notes, no obvious 'petrol'. At first the wine appeared overly soft on the palate, but as it warmed, a razor sharp acidity kicked in to balance the fairly high level of sweetness. Loads of creamy lemon and pineapple fruit, (in the end) nicely balanced by some minerals and zingy acids. Really fine wine from a producer whose wines I usually enjoy - I just wish I saw their products around more. Drinking nicely now, not sure if it needs any more age. 8.0% abv.
