Havens Merlot sale at K & L

by Jenise » Fri Jan 08, 2010 9:00 pm

Great "house wine" deal today at K & L Wines in California, $6.99. Was $20, and a relative bargain at that if the merlots from this hidden Napa gem are as serious as they were ten years ago.

Cool! They must be fire saling the last of their Havens wine. :( Definitely good wines for bright fruit HIGH acidity fans!

If you like the Havens style, I honestly think Hopper Creek and, to a lesser extent, Bell, hold to that leaner style.

It's a wine I remember the first time I tasted it--I bought it by the glass at a little L.A. institution called Philippe's across from Union Station to go with my roast lamb French Dip sandwich. Only Matanzas Creek back before Kendall Jackson bought the label/winery ever made as good an impression on me with California merlot. The grape's such a hard sell though except as cheap bar wine; too bad.
