WTN: Cuilleron Syrah and a Foul Negroamaro

2004 Forte Canto Negroamaro. Ugh. I am very "brett" tolerant, but this black "beauty" turned my stomach....literally. Bretty as a all getout, with an unpleasant bitter finish. Kevin set a glass aside "giving it a chance" and he noted a half hour later the wine degraded from horse sh**& to horse urine. One of my few pour-down-the-drain wines. Under a plasticork and not perfectly stored...and two years ago this was a classic "peasant wine" that I enjoyed.

2004 Yves Cuilleron Cote Rotie Madiniere. This, on the other hand, was pretty classic Northern Rhone. Lightish dark ruby in color, I remarked that it looked quite a bit like a California Pinot Noir! Cranberry, blackberry, bacon, white pepper...very light and elegant in texture. Good acidity...this needs food.
