WTN: Various Brief Notes

by Brian K Miller » Mon Jan 04, 2010 12:09 pm

2007 Parkmon Vineyards Lamorinda AVA (Contra Costa County) Sangiovese. A major disappointment. Decent enough fruit with good acidity and tangy, but absolutely buried by the vanilla and dill. Bleh.

2004 Bergerie l'Hortus Pic St. Loup. Pleasant Mediterranean quaffer. Fuzzy tannins, anise fruit, some herbs but not dominant. Not exciting, but far more pleasure than the Parkmon.

2004 Goosecross Cellars Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. Lovely balance, with good acidity, nice anise fruit, delicious fuzzy tannic structure. Beautiful fruit. As always, they nail this wine! Went perfectly with braised short ribs!

2003 Dunn Cabernet Sauvignon. Ferocious green tannins, even after decanting. When they relented, beautiful anise and black cherry fruit and lovely mouth feel. A classic from a difficult vintage????? Will the fruit survive the tannins?

2004 Chateau Payreau St Emillion. Very savory/gritty/soy/black cherry fruit and raspberry. Moer red fruit than the previous bottle. Still pretty nice.

2007 Cade Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc. Blended with Semillon. Aged in some oak. Creamy character works really well with the citrus fruit. SWome nice savory notes as well. Very nice!

The eternal question for Dunn.
