WTN: Muga Barrel-Fermented White 2007

by Bruce Hayes » Sun Jan 03, 2010 10:58 am

DOC Rioja
Bodegas Muga

A 90-10 per cent blend of Viura and Malvasia

Light golden in the glass.

Spicy, pear, caramel on the rather rich nose.

Pleaseant pear, apple, a hint of lemon, quite tangy, light to medium weight, caramel-vanilla, quite light and thin particularly toward the end.

Tangy, mouthwatering, apple and lemon on the finish.

Not nearly as good, and lacking the weight and structure, of previous vintages.

Purchased at $15.95 (Canadian).

Too bad.

I've never been much of a fan of white Rioja, though admittedly I haven't tried all that many.

When it's good, it's very good.
