Traditionally, I haven't been too crazy over Niagara Cab Sauvignons, finding them as a group to be a bit too green for my liking. Still, I do try them every now and then just to get a gist of where the genre is heading. In good red-wine vintages, of which 2007 was no doubt one, Niagara-grown Cab Sauvignons can actually be pretty good.
12.8% alc./vol. Deep dark garnet all throughout with a cherry-sumac hue at the meniscus. Very pleasant, surprisingly well defined nose of blackcurrants and a strong oak overlay; a very faint hint of bell pepper but in a properly supportive role as a spicy component; attractive in the glass for its saturation and the nice relay of tears it leaves in the glass. Crisp acidity; good flavour replays with flavours following from the nose; lots of oak on the mid-palate; some bitter tannin. Very well balanced; a nice medium body. Excellent at the table for its moderate alcohol level and good body overall. Strong oaky replays continue into the finish.
This is actually very good Ontario Cab at a decent price. I am pleasantly taken by it, and can honestly recommend the wine.
